Reiki (pronounced “RAY- KEY) is a Japanese word meaning “universal life energy.” Many cultures believe that life energy flows throughout the physical body and that imbalances in this flow correspond to mental, physical and emotional illness. The healing therapy of Reiki addresses both chronic and acute pain helping to bring the flow along with all the systems of the body back into balance supporting and promoting overall health, well being, healing and regeneration of the body and mind. Reiki helps alleviate stress, pain and injury as well as promote healing, restful sleep, deep relaxation, improved circulation and immune function.
Reiki can be received anywhere, in any setting, although most sessions take place while lying on a table, fully clothed. Little or no pressure is applied and no oils are used. Reiki is not a massage. The practitioner simply places her hands on or above the body following a series of hand positions, but can place her hands wherever they are needed. It is believed that the universal energy flows not from the practitioner but rather through the practitioner to you. You will receive the amount of energy you need to bring your mind and body into balance.
Even though Reiki appears to be simple, the effects can be profound. Feelings of deep relaxation, tingling, pulsing and sensations of warmth and comfort can be expected or you may even fall asleep. It is also common to experience powerful sensations, emotions and feelings of calm, peace and well being during or after a session.
